Camden Howitt

Camden Howitt is the co-founder and Programmes Director of New Zealand-based charity Sustainable Coastlines.[1] He is also a founder of the Aotearoa Plastic Pollution Alliance and an Edmund Hillary Fellow.[2]

In 2008, Camden and his friend Sam Judd established the charity Sustainable Coastlines, designed to reduce plastic pollution across New Zealand through beach clean-ups, education and litter data collection.[3] He was awarded the 2023 Environmental Hero of the Year Te Toa Taiao o te Tau for his work with Sustainable Coastlines and his wider involvement in the conservation of New Zealand coastlines. Biography

Education

Camden graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Applied Science and Bachelor of Arts. His degree focused on Design for Technology, culminating in an Honours dissertation on “Understanding Recycling: Influencing Public Participation through Communication”.[1] Camden also studied Spanish while at university, allowing him to travel to Mexico on exchange, where he met his eventual co-founder of Sustainable Coastlines, Sam Judd. [1]
