Cameron James Moody is an American composer, conductor, and trumpeter best known for his score to the Hulu limited series Washington Black which earned him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited or Anthology Series, Movie, or Special (Original Dramatic Score).[1][2]

Born on August 29, 2002, Moody grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. He is the youngest of two children of Kevin Moody, a United States Marine Corps veteran and Chief Human Resources Officer at Emory University, and Tomika Moody, a physician.[3][4] He spent his early years playing the trumpet and then, in 2016, Cameron began high school at the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. During his sophomore year, Cameron attended a film scoring workshop at New York University and, after graduating in 2019, he enrolled at NYU where he studied Music Theory and Composition.[5]
Career
In the fall of 2020, Cameron met Pultizer Prize-winning composer Michael Abels, who spoke to his class during a guest lecture at NYU. During the lecture, Moody presented a rescored scene from the 2017 Universal Pictures hit Get Out, directed by Jordan Peele (and originally scored by Abels). This encounter led Moody to begin working as an apprentice to the composer, writing additional music on various film and television projects.[6][7][8]
In 2024, Cameron was hired by Hulu and 20th Television to compose the score for the eight-part limited series Washington Black.[9] His score was nominated for Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited or Anthology Series, Movie, or Special (Original Dramatic Score) at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2026.[10]
Other credits include the Netlfix/Breakwater Studios documentary The Baddest Speechwriter Of All[11], the History Channel series Kennedy[12], Patrick Green's Sincerely, Los Angeles, and Disney's Portrait Of An Artist: Stephen Curry.
