From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki
Camp Jaycee is a summer day camp in San Diego, California at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center. The Summer 2010 season of Camp Jaycee marks its 65th year of existence.[1] Camp Jaycee is accredited by the American Camping Association,[2] and "serves all people regardless of age, gender, race, color, national origin, religion, ethnicity, or ability."[3]
Highlights of Camp Jaycee[edit]
- Camp Jaycee offers many different activities to campers, such as, field trips, crafts, dance, singing, acting, sports, instructional and recreational swimming and counselor and leadership in training programs.[4]
- Although Camp Jaycee is open to all campers, there are a few Jewish elements in the camp: the Schlihim and Shabbat. Each year, three Shlichim (counselors) from Israel join the camp as the Judaica specialists. They share a taste of Israel with the campers through music, dance, customs, and Hebrew. Every afternoon Friday ends with a camp-wide celebration of Shabbat, this includes singing and dancing and a screening of a slideshow photo montage of pictures from the week of camp.[5]
