Cancha Pinilla is a small rural locality situated in the Alto Paraguay Department, in the Chaco Boreal region of Paraguay. Administratively, it is part of the Fuerte Olimpo district.
Geography
The locality is situated in a flat terrain with a semi-tropical climate, characteristic of the western region of the country. The area is distinguished by its xerophytic forest vegetation and natural grasslands. The climate is harsh, with temperatures frequently exceeding 40°C (104°F) in summer, and long periods of drought followed by intense seasonal rains that can make access difficult.
Economy
The primary economic activity in the area is extensive cattle ranching. Due to its remote location in the heart of the Chaco, the locality serves mainly as a logistical point and reference for the surrounding cattle ranches (estancias).
Access and Infrastructure
Access to Cancha Pinilla is primarily via unpaved roads (embankments) that connect with the road network of the Alto Paraguay department. These routes are highly dependent on weather conditions, as they can become impassable during heavy rains. Infrastructure is basic, focused on the needs of the local rural population.
