Cantest Solutions Inc. is a Canadian company headquartered in Airdrie, Alberta, Canada with several operations across the country in Abbotsford, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Kitchener, Ottawa, and Moncton.

The company was founded in 1994 capitalizing on a unique opportunity to provide asset integrity and regulatory compliance services. Over the years, the company has grown to provide various services to both the Upstream and Downstream petroleum industry. The company's core services include Fuel Dispenser Certification/Meter Calibration, Precision Tank and Line Testing, Preventative Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance, and Statistical Inventory Reconciliation. In 2017, two subsidiary companies, A4 Systems and Oasis Technology, were created to support international growth and R&D efforts within the company.

Services[edit]

Precision Tank and Line Testing[edit]

Cantest has been providing Precision Tank and Line Testing since 1994. The service can be performed on all types of fuel storage tanks for both the Upstream and Downstream industries. The national fire code requires Precision Leak Detection tests on regular intervals for single wall tanks. This can be every 2 years for a tank that is undergoing Basic Inventory Reconciliation, or every 5 years for tanks who undergo Statistical Inventory Reconciliation or Basic Inventory Reconciliation as well as Monitoring Wells.[1]

Fuel Dispenser Certification and Meter Calibration[edit]

In Canada, all downstream fuel dispensers require re-certification and meter calibration every 2 years.[2] Cantest Solutions is mandated by Measurement Canada for the certification and calibration services of fuel dispensers across Canada. This service ensures that the dispensers are within Measurement Canada requirements and that the fuel being dispensed is the actual amount being paid for.

The company was the first to implement the Closed Loop Electronic Calibration (CLEC) System, in which is used in their calibration services in 1998.[3] The idea for CLEC came from extensive studies on older calibration devices, such as the open neck prover. The studies showed that when using an open neck prover there are several sources of error in the measurement readings. These sources of error stem from vapour loss, human error and more, which are completely eliminated with the Closed Loop system.[3]

Preventative Maintenance[edit]

Cantest’s Preventative Maintenance service provides customers with evaluations of on-site equipment, environmental hazard identification, regulatory compliance issues, and identification of any safety concerns.

Predictive Maintenance[edit]

The company’s Predictive Maintenance service uses machine learning through regression and classification algorithms to determine the remaining useful life of equipment.

According to a study by the Department of Energy (US), a facility that leans heavily on predictive (rather than reactive or preventative) performance management methods can save 30-40% in equipment maintenance costs.[4]

SIR - Statistical Inventory Reconciliation[edit]

SIR is a method for monitoring leaks within underground storage tanks. Data is gathered and reported on a computer software for statistical analysis.
