Capital City High School (CCHS) is a public secondary school in Jefferson City, Missouri. It is one of the five public high schools in Cole County and is one of two in Jefferson City.

History

The Jefferson City Public School District was established in 1838, but the first separate high school building was not built until 1905, with the creation of what is now the Simonsen 9th Grade Center. Jefferson City High School opened on January 22, 1964 and housed 9th to 12th graders. As problems with space arose, the J+C Bond initiative was passed, which provided funding to build a new public high school and to refurbish the old one. The ground breaking ceremony was held on February 17, 2017, and construction continued until 2019, when the first school year started, only having Freshman and Sophomore. The 2021-2022 school year was the first to have a graduating Senior class.

Academics

Capital City High School serves approximately 1087[2] students in grades 9-12. Capital City High School is designated as a high school by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The school is accredited by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Students may earn college credit from Lincoln University through approved courses on the CCHS campus during regular school hours.
