Captain's Ball is a sport that is similar to netball except that it can be played by both males and females. You do not need any special equipment to play Captain's Ball except for a ball, similar to a netball or a volleyball, and two chairs.
Rules
Teams usually consist of 6 players or more. Each team selects one team member to be the "goal catcher," i.e., the captain, and two others as shooters. The rest are fielders. Fielders may take the positions they like outside of the circles on their half of the pitch. The 'goal catcher' goes over to the other half of the pitch and stands on a chair in the goal circle; the shooters also go over to the other half of the pitch and shoot to the goal catcher. [1] There are often allocated defenders in front of the goal catcher to block the attempts.
Goals are scored if the goal catcher catches a ball thrown by the shooters with both having at least one foot in their circles. [2]
Rules:
- No running with the ball.
- Goal catchers and shooters must have at least one foot in a circle when catching or throwing the ball.
- Fielders may not cross the center line.
- No pushing or charging.
- Penalties are given as free throws by an opponent base player.
- Have fun playing this game!
Past Tournaments
Windy Heights' Multi Purpose court in Kembangan, Singapore has hosted some of the best Captain's Ball games in the past year and a half. DPS, a local Singapore celebrity and an invincible defender, is without a doubt the most decorated player in the history of this game. He was also, till very recently, the owner and administrator of a weekly tournament planning committee on WhatsApp but has since abandoned this post. This abandonment came both as a shock and as no surprise to the Singapore Captain's Ball community, many of whom have since quit the committee in protest only to be added back a few hours later, in a puzzling series of events. DPS devotedly continues to organise the tournaments from outside the committee through an ExtraCurricular Trust. The first flagship tournament of the Trust was the KamiAppa tournament.
The KamiAppa tournament, organized by The Dilparinder Singh ExtraCurricular Trust, was held in the Windy Heights multi purpose court on Saturday, May 23, 2015. CBallers ShankarRocks, NamzNinja were adjudged the most valuable buys. Swami and KJ bagged the best player trophies. Black team won the otherwise not so closely contested FairPrice FairPlay award. Marwah's white team finished the league undefeated, becoming the first KamiAppa tournament champions!
