Captain Henson's Tree
Captain Henson's Tree is a Baobab tree on the southwest corner of U.S. 1 and New Griffin Road. It was named after the famed airport fire captain Henson, whose many accomplishments have given him notoriety among his peers and the community. He not only has served as a fire captain at the airport for 30 years but also as a park volunteer at John Lloyd State Park. The Baobab tree that bears his namesake was almost uprooted from its spot between the road and a nearby railroad track when runway construction was being conducted in the area, [1] but fortunately the tree, which has been in that spot since the 1920's, got to stay alive.
