The Capture of Kanchangarh was a military expedition led by Tipu Sultan against the Marathas who had captured the town.[1] This took place in 1786. The Maratha armies were led by Hari Pant Phirkia. This expedition was aimed at expelling the Marathas from the territory of the Mysore Sultanate.

Background

In 1786, Tipu Sultan was focused on expanding his kingdom and began capturing nearby territories. During this time, he successfully defeated the Maratha alliance in the Siege of Adoni, ultimately capturing the city. Tipu Sultan also emerged victorious over the Nizam and Marathas in this battle. Following this triumph, he advanced towards Gopal and ultimately reached Kanchan Garh, which was held by the Marathas.[citation needed]

The Battle

The battle occurred at the fort of Kanchangarh, with Tipu Sultan leading the forces of Mysore and Hari Pant commanding the Maratha forces.[1]Template:Quote request Following a brief siege, Tipu Sultan emerged victorious,[1]Template:Quote request defeating the Marathas.[2]Template:Quote request Subsequently, upon learning of the invasion by Tipu Sultan, the Rani fled with her female servants.[2]Template:Quote request
