Carbon Power and Light
Carbon Power and Light, Inc. is a public utility cooperative based in Saratoga, Wyoming, United States.[1] It serves as the electric distribution utility in a portion of southern Wyoming.[2][3] Carbon Power and Light is a member of and receives its electricity from Tri-State Generation and Transmission.[4]
Management[edit]
The operations of Carbon Power and Light are supervised by a General manager[5][6][7] who reports to a board of directors.
Regulation[edit]
The Wyoming Public Service Commission regulates Carbon Power and Light.[8][9]
Service outages[edit]
Carbon Power and Light customers may report or check the status of outages by using the outage map page.
Notable outages[edit]
- In December 2015 more than 250 customers were without power for several hours while Carbon Power and Light repaired its Elk Mountain, Wyoming substation.[10]
- In August 2015 customers in the North Platte River valley and the town of Saratoga, Wyoming were without power for about four hours after a lightning strike.[11][12]
- In September 2020 the company intentionally cut power to some areas evacuated because of the Mullen Fire.[13]
Ransomware attack[edit]
The company was attacked with Conti ransomware in 2020.[14][15]
Solar power and energy storage[edit]
Carbon Power and Light allows customers to use solar photovoltaic power and electric thermal storage.[16][17] Customers with their own solar electric generation systems can take advantage of Net metering.[18]
Memberships[edit]
The company is a member of the Western Electricity Coordinating Council, which promotes Bulk Electric System (BES) reliability for the entire Western Interconnection system.[19]
