The Cardinal's guards Script error: The function "langx" does not exist. were men assigned to protect Armand Jean du Plessis, Cardinal Richelieu, Bishop of Luçon.
They were made famous by Alexandre Dumas's novel The Three Musketeers, in which they are portrayed as the rivals of the King's Musketeers (also known as "Musketeers of the Guard" – Mousquetaires de la Garde du Roi, distinguished from the King's forces by the red tunics and white crosses worn by Richelieu's guards.
