Cardo Systems Ltd. (in Hebrew ืงืืจื“ื• ืกื™ืกื˜ืžืก) is an international Israeli company that develops, manufactures and markets wireless communication systems worldwide, with an emphasis on systems specifically designed for motorcycle helmet headsets. The company's products also used to be known under the brand Scala Rider.[1] Cardo Systems was the first company to introduce Bluetooth mono communication systems for motorcycles.[2]

History

The company was founded in the US in 2003 by Dr. Avi Glezerman[3] and a year and a half later, the Solo Scala Rider[4] product was launched as the first Bluetooth system that was designated for the motorcycle market and which enabled riders to use a mono communication system. The Solo Scala Rider allowed riders to connect to their cell phones via Bluetooth with good audio quality, using a technology that monitors wind noise during riding and allows the rider to make phone calls while riding.

In 2005, the company produced the "Scala Rider FM" model, the first communications system of its kind in the world, that integrates a radio connection interface in FM frequency. In 2007, the company produced the "Scala Rider Team Set" - also the first system of its kind - to allow wireless communication between the rider and the passenger. In 2009, the first G4 Intercom model in the motorcycling industry was launched. The G4 increased the range of communication between riders and broke the 1.6 km record.

In 2010, Cardo launched the SRCS System, a semi-built-in solution in the helmet of the veteran German firm Schuberth, with integration of a communication antenna and a unique FM inside the helmet, enabling end-users to Plug & Play.

In 2010, the SHO-1 product was launched and offered a solution that enabled a more aerodynamic integration than the market's standard, by splitting the power supply from the communications unit itself. In response to the limitations of communication using Bluetooth technology, which requires maintaining the continuity and location of each member of the communication group, in 2015, the company developed a communication solution based on Mesh[5] technology[6]. The "DYNAMIC MESH COMMUNICATION" (DMC) technology, provided the solution for group motorcycling in a way that allows members of the group to ride freely while the system adjusts itself automatically and according to membersโ€™ changing locations. This solution has proved to be a successful response to group communication while riding, which does not operate in the form of a rigid chain, therefore had previously made it difficult to maintain communication.

In 2017, Fortissimo[7], a private equity fund, acquired about one-third of the shares of Cardo.

In 2018, Cardo integrated "Natural Voice Activation" technology (in eight languages), enabling the activation of the systems by voice command[8]

In 2019, the company formed a strategic partnership with Harman Kardon and its Sub-brand Sound โ€“ the JBL company[9] [10]. The collaboration resulted in producing a maximum high-quality audio solution for the motorcycle market[11]

The company accounts for about a third of the world market share for motorcycle headset products (2019).

The Company's branches

Cardo's Systems products are sold in 80 countries worldwide. The company's headquarters are in Ra'anana, where most of the employees are concentrated (about 70). The company has offices in the United States, Hong Kong and the Netherlands and employs more than 85 employees overall.
