Carlito "Carl" Espino Balita, EdD (born April 10, 1970)[6] is a Filipino entrepreneur, educator, health professional, and radio personality. He is the Chairman of the CEB Group of Companies, Chief Executive Officer of Carl Balita Review Center (CBRC), and Chairman of Mahalta Resorts.[7][8]
Education[edit]
Balita is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Santo Tomas (UST), where he was an academic Dean's Lister. He finished his master's degree in Nursing at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM), with distinction for his acclaimed thesis on the "Caring Concepts of Filipino Nurses" which was presented in the International Nursing Conference in Brunei Darussalam. In 2007, the Lorma Colleges (La Union) conferred him a Doctor of Humanities philosophy (Honoris Causa) degree. He also holds a Graduate Doctoral Degree in Education from PLM and a Certificate in Entrepreneurship from De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde. Balita is also a graduate of International Management Program from Stanford University-National University of Singapore.[9]
Career[edit]
Balita was a faculty of the Graduate School and College of Nursing at PLM where he also held various academic positions from 1993 to 1997. He was a clinical preceptor at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), National Center for Mental Health (NCMH), San Lazaro Hospital, and National Orthopedic Center. He served as Dean of Dominican College in Metro Manila from 2004 to 2008.
Balita was a two-time President and a Chairman of the Quezon City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCCI) at the age of 34. During his administration, the QCCCI became a hall of fame awardee as an "outstanding chamber in the country" and the "best local chamber" of the Asia Pacific.[10]
Balita wrote and published The Ultimate Learning Guide to Nursing Review and Ultimate Testing Guide to Nursing Review. He co-wrote Theoretical Foundations of Nursing: The Philippine Perspective with former Board of Nursing Chair Dr. Eufemia Octaviano. He also launched the Online Review for Nursing, through his website (www.carlbalita.org).
Balita is the lead convenor of Entrepinoy Movement, an advocacy group that assists Filipinos through entrepreneurship. He is also behind several brands of enterprises such as the Carl Balita Review Center (major review center with 120 local and overseas branches, and only ISO certified company of its kind in the country),[1] Ultimate Creatives (IT company), LYF Center Inc (medical wellness and beauty spa), Little Lamb's Pediatric Wellness Place (medical spa for children), Fior Café (franchise of gourmet café), Cebal Center for Manpower Development and Research, and DREAM Inc. (microfinance and training company).
Balita also conducts trainings for corporate clients in banking, real estate, pharmaceuticals, and other industries in and out of the country.
He is the producer of the film Nars, a movie about Filipino nurses. The film starred Jennylyn Mercado, Jodi Sta. Maria, Agot Isidro, Coco Martin, and Jon Avila among others. He is also the producer of the album iDREAM, a compilation of motivational songs featuring popular Filipino talents like Isay Alvarez, Robert Seña, Jenine Desiderio, Jamie Rivera, Bituin Escalante, Karylle, Luke Mejares, Raymond Lauchengco, Arthur Manuntag, and Dr. Tony Rebosa.
Balita currently serves as Member of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI)-Education Task Force, and Chairman of PCCI-Basic Education Committee.[11]
He is also the voice behind ABS-CBN-DZMM Teleradyo program Radyo Negosyo. The said program, which airs every Saturday at 7:00 PM, is a four-time Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) Awardee as "Best Business News Feature" and by the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) as "Best Public Service Program".[12]

Balita's accolades include winning the GANDINGAN Award by the University of the Philippines, Golden Dove Award for Public Service by Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas, CMMA Hall of Fame Awardee for Radyo Negosyo, UST Outstanding Alumni Awardee for Business and Mass Media (Quadricentinneal Celebration), Go Negosyo Youth Enabler Awardee, and a nomination for Best Lifestyle/Travel Show Host (with Ina Alegre and Joy Belmonte for Thumbs Up at Studio 23) at the 26th PMPC Star Awards for Television.
Political career[edit]
Balita filed his certificate of candidacy for senator on 7 October 2021 as part of presidential aspirant Isko Moreno’s senatorial slate, under political party Aksyon Demokratiko. His platforms were geared towards addressing the learning, economic, and health crises brought by the COVID-19 pandemic,[13] but eventually lost placing 30th among the 64 candidates in the senatorial race count.[14]
