Carlena Britch (born October 6, 1990 in Vancouver Canada) is a Canadian dancer, choreographer, instructor, and actress. Her parents are of Russian and Italian descent.
Early Life[edit]
Carlena was born October 6, 1990 in Vancouver Canada. Carlena spent most of her childhood moving from one place to another, her strong mindset helped her survive foster care.
At the age of 9 Carlena's eyes were opened to the a culture of music and movement. An instructor named Susanna Cejalvo imparted a two weeks hip hop program at Carlena's now 4th elementary school.
She connected and fell in love with it instantly, allowing her to focus and canalize her anger and frustration toward a positive artistic point of view. She expressed her frustration through the words of Eminem, Dr. Dre and Eazy-Ewhile learning to move along with the sound of Salt-N-Pepa, QTLC and Aaliyah.
She finally felt alive and understood.
Career[edit]
Carlena recalls her breakthrough moment at a local mall dance competition performing a solo at the age of 14. At that performance she got discovered by Kim Sato.
Kim Sato took Carlena under her wing and exposed her to the professional world of dance through her hip hop company SOULdiers. She continued her training in SOULdiers for 3 years; eventually, moving forward she got admitted to one of Vancouver's most prestigious, all-female crew, Diamonds In The Rough. Carlena continued to train and perform with Diamonds In The Rough, along with Stonefoxx Dance Crew, RAW Dance Crew and The Vancity Lockers.
Grasping at every opportunity to expand her knowledge and herself, Carlena begun attending Monster Of Hip Hop dance conventions where in 2009 she was discovered by Clear Talent Group in Los Angeles. A few months after signing with Clear Talent Group, Carlena booked her first music video, starring in Michael Buble's "Just haven't met you yet[1]" official music video.
Her professional career was officially beginning. She took a leap of faith and quit her full-time job in Vancouver and moved to Toronto, once there she auditioned for the Disney Channel movie "Camp Rock 2". She booked herself a lead dance role in the "Camp Star" crew. With her filming career just beginning she auditioned for a dance role in the Nickelodeon movie "Rags" and it turned out being a completely surprise when the producers asked her to come in and read for one of the lead roles instead. Carlena got the role of Keke Palmer's best friend "Tammy" and drove her head into the acting world.
Carlena auditioned for season 3 of So You Think You Can Dance Canada. Making it all the way to top 40, she walked away with experience and with a clearer vision of who she was as a performer, knowing that she had to work much harder to make it.
She auditioned again for season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance Canada and made it to the top 22. Making it all the way to the top 7 female spot, she left behind her fears and stepped forward into a new light, winning respect and support from her incredible-growing fan base. She was ready to officially take onto the world and use her journey as inspiration along the way.
In March 2012 Carlena made the biggest decision of her life this far. Packing up her suitcases for the last time, she moved to Los Angeles with zero intentions of turning back.
She was giving the opportunity to audition for the biggest world tour of the year, Justin Bieber's "Believe" tour. Only a month after moving to LA she was discovered by the choreographer Nick DeMouura and the director of the movie, Jon Chu and landed being one of the six female dancers of the tour. She spent the next 2 years of her life on tour, filming music videos such as "As Long As You Love Me[2]", and "All Around The World[3]", performing on award shows like the "Teen Choice Awards","Much Music Video Awards", "American Music Awards", "Billboard Music Awards" and television shows such as The Voice, America's Got Talent and Dancing With The Stars. Working hard for the opportunity to dance for incredible performers such as Justin Bieber, Usher, Chris Brown, Prince, Pharrell, Gwen Stefani, Lil Wayne, Tyga, Jason Derulo, Michael Buble and Zendaya, Carlena continues growing up as a person and dancer through performances in music videos, award shows and live stage. She was meant to dance with some big stars when she became part of the "Lip Synce Battle" dance team, hosted by LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen.
In 2015 she decided to step down of her dancing career a little bit and concentrate more on her acting career and now she's part/attending acting school. She has been filming a few short films such as, Hit TV,[4] The Lonely Island, and more to come. She has been modeling for some brands as, BeMore Media, Nozo Toronto, Adidas by Stella Mccartney, Adidas Women, Planet Salon and so on.
