Carlos Toribio Robinet Lambarri (1853 – 6 November 1903) was a Chilean politician and journalist affiliated with the Radical Party.
He served as Deputy of the Republic for four consecutive legislative periods between 1891 and 1903, representing Copiapó, Chañaral, Vallenar and Freirina, and later Tarapacá and Pisagua.[1]
Biography
Robinet was born at the Chilean consulate in Macau, China, in 1853, the son of a Japanese commercial agent and the Chilean Rosa Lambarri Ovalle. He moved to Chile at an early age and studied at the Instituto Nacional, although he did not complete his studies.[1]
He subsequently devoted himself to journalism and poetry, writing biographical works on several contemporary figures and participating in literary activities. He also worked in commerce and the insurance industry. During a stay in Peru, he contributed to El Heraldo of Lima and continued as its correspondent after returning to Chile. He also contributed to several Chilean liberal newspapers, including La Libertad, El Ferrocarril, La Época, La Libertad Electoral, La Tribuna and La Ley.[1]
Robinet was involved in educational and charitable organizations, including the Sociedad de Instrucción Primaria and the Liga de Estudiantes Pobres. He also served as a counselor and arbitrator of the Escuela Profesional de Niñas. A member of the Sixth Company of the Santiago Fire Department, he was appointed its honorary director in 1902.[1]
Political career
A member of the Radical Party, Robinet was elected Deputy for Copiapó, Chañaral, Vallenar and Freirina for two consecutive terms, serving from 1891 to 1894 and from 1894 to 1897. During this period, he was a member of the Finance and Industry Committee.[1]
He was subsequently elected Deputy for Tarapacá and Pisagua for the 1897–1900 and 1900–1903 legislative periods. During his parliamentary service, he served on the Government and Education and Charity committees as a substitute member, as well as on the Finance and Industry and Finance committees as a regular member.[1]
Within the Radical Party, Robinet served as a member of its Central Board in 1901.[1]
