Carly Augenstein (born June 9, 1989) is an actress and singer known for her work in musical theatre and voice acting. In 2024, she joined the North American Tour of Wicked as Elphaba Standby.[1][2]

Early life[edit]

Augenstein was born and raised in Marion, Ohio.[3] As a child, she performed often in community theater productions at the Marion Palace Theater, starting with playing the title role in the musical Annie.[4] She continued to perform at the Palace, as well in high school productions at River Valley High School, before attending Syracuse University. There, she earned her BFA in Musical Theatre in 2011.

Career[edit]

Augenstein began living and working as an actor in New York City in 2012. Notable roles include Nancy in Fancy Nancy the Musical[5] and touring with two TheatreWorksUSA productions: Civil War and A Christmas Carol. [6]

In 2018, Augenstein performed off-Broadway in the New York Theatre Barn's New Works Series in Matte O'Brien & Matt Vinson's musical Anne of Green Gables.[7] Also in 2018, she was a semifinalist in the Lotte Lenya Competition.[8][9]

Augenstein also regularly performed at cabaret venues like 54 Below[10] and the Green Room 42.[11]

Augenstein moved to Los Angeles in 2021, where she has worked in commercials and voiceover.[12]

In 2024, Augenstein was cast as Elphaba standby in the North American Tour of Wicked.[13][14][1]
