Carly Christine Gold is a retired American figure skater. She was the 2016 Pacific Coast Sectional and Southwest Pacific Regional champion.
Personal life[edit]
Carly was born on August 17, 1995, in Newton, Massachusetts, to Denise, an emergency room nurse, and Carl Gold, an anesthesiologist. She has a fraternal twin sister, two-time US national figure skating champion and Olympic bronze medallist Gracie Gold, who is older by 40 minutes.[1] Gold was raised in Springfield, Missouri, before moving to Springfield, Illinois. She graduated from a distance learning program called the University of Missouri High School.
Career[edit]
Carly started skating a year after her twin sister in Springfield, Missouri.[1] The family then moved to Springfield, Illinois, and Carly and Gracie trained in the Chicago area.[citation needed] In late 2013, the pair moved to Los Angeles to train with veteran coach Frank Carroll.[1] Carly won silver at the Upper Great Lakes Regional in the 2012–13 season.[citation needed] The 2015–16 season was her strongest yet; Carly qualified for the 2016 U.S. Figure Skating Championships by winning gold at both the Southwest Pacific Regionals and Pacific Coast Sectional Figure Skating Championships.[1] She finished 19th at nationals after coming 15th in the short program and 21st in the free.[2] She and Gracie were the first set of twins skating at the senior ladies championships since Alissa Czisny and her sister Amber in 2003.[3]
Carly announced her retirement from skating in the summer of 2016 saying she had achieved her goal of skating at nationals and wanted to move on from skating to pursue a career in photography. She began attending Marymount California University in the fall of 2016.[4]
