Carmine Barbaro (Kazakh: Carmine Barbaro; August 24, 1948, in Palmi, Calabria – -) is a Kazakhstani painter and educator, People's Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan, member of the Union of Artists of the Republic of Kazakhstan, member of the association of Genoese artists. Professor. Director of the Educational Center "ITALY" in Almaty. Chairman of the Dante Alighieri Committee. He is noted for his colourful and neo-realistic depictions of Kazakhstani men and women and Kazakhstani landscapes.

Life and career

Barbaro Carmine was born on August 24, 1948 in Palmi, Italy. Between 1968 and 1994 he was engaged in businesses in Italy and at the same time he began his creative activities experimenting in the field of painting. He moved to Kazakhstan in 1994 and eventually acquired permanent resident status in Kazakhstan. Between 1994 and 1998, he worked in the business sector in Kazakhstan in various Italian, Italian-Kazakh companies and organizations. He made a significant contribution to promoting Italian culture and language working as an associate professor at various universities and colleges in Kazakhstan, including Kainar University, Abylai Khan Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages, T. Zhurgenov Academy of Arts, etc. [1] Since 2003, he is an honorary foreign member of the Union of Artists of Kazakhstan (Almaty) and recipient of numerous national and international awards and orders. From 2004 to present, he is the director of the Center “Italy” in Almaty. Since 2008, he is the President of the Dante Alighieri Committee in Almaty (Cultural organization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy for promoting the Italian language and culture).

Work

Barbaro Carmine is notable for his works in the field of easel and monumental painting, graphics, sculpture, and for presenting his artistic works at a number of personal exhibitions at the national level. He is the author of numerous landscapes, portraits and still life paintings working mainly in oil.[2] The artist's works were selected for exhibiting at prestigious art galleries across Kazakhstan, exhibitions and art museums in Italy, Kazakhstan and Russia. Among the most significant achievements were personal exhibitions at the Kazakh National Historical Museum[3] Currently, several of Carmine's paintings are exhibited in the Kasteev National Art Gallery in Almaty, as well as in the national galleries of the city of Nur-Sultan. As art life achievement recognition, four of his paintings have been selected into the permanent exhibition at the Kasteev National Art Gallery.

Awards and recognition

Carmine Barbaro received numerous awards and recognitions in Kazakhstan for his paintings and for his teaching activities, including several national awards. He was named among the top 100 modern painters in Kazakhstan in 2018 according to a survey conducted by the Kazakh National Institute of Culture.
