Andrew Carnegie, the steel baron of the late 19th century, is recognized as the seminal figure in pension fund history by Pensions & Investments.[1]

At his death, he was known to have contributed $10,000,000 of his $30,000,000 estate to friends. Part of this was done through pensions.[2]
