ning and building amplifiers for over 20 years.

Carol-Ann amplifiers are known for their high-quality components, attention to detail, and unique tonal characteristics. They are hand-built using point-to-point wiring, which allows for a more direct signal path and better sound quality than circuit boards[2]

One of the most popular models from Carol-Ann is the Tucana, a 100-watt amplifier head that features two channels, each with its own set of controls for gain, tone, and volume. The Tucana is known for its versatility, as it can produce a wide range of tones, from clean and chimey to overdriven and aggressive.

Carol-Ann amplifiers are used by many professional guitarists, including Joe Bonamassa[3]. They are known for their reliability and consistency, making them a popular choice for touring musicians who need a high-quality amplifier that can withstand the rigors of the road.

Product Lines[edit]

HS-2[4]

The Carol-Ann HS-2 is a guitar amplifier head that is designed to provide a high-gain, modern rock and metal tone. It is part of the Hot-Switch series of amplifiers from Carol-Ann, which are known for their versatility and range of tonal options.

The HS-2 features two channels: a clean channel and a high-gain channel. The clean channel is designed to be transparent and provide a clean, crisp tone that is suitable for a variety of styles of music. The high-gain channel, on the other hand, is designed to provide a heavy, saturated tone that is ideal for modern rock and metal music.

One of the standout features of the HS-2 is its Hot-Switch system, which allows you to switch between different modes of operation for each channel. This allows you to tailor the sound of the amplifier to your specific needs and preferences, making it a versatile and customizable option for guitarists.

The HS-2 also features a range of other useful features, including an effects loop, a master volume control, and a bright switch. It is powered by four EL34 power tubes and four 12AX7 preamp tubes, and it can deliver up to 100 watts of power.

Overall, the Carol-Ann HS-2 is a powerful and versatile amplifier head that is well-suited to modern rock and metal guitarists who are looking for a high-gain tone with a range of tonal options.

OD2 Series[5]

OD2 Series is a 2 channel amplifier that came in two versions: OD2 50 Watts and OD2r 30/18 selectable watts

The OD2 series is known for its high-quality construction, versatile tonal options, and ability to provide both clean and overdriven sounds.[2]

Some of the key features of the OD2 amplifiers include:

  • All-tube construction: The OD2 amplifiers use only vacuum tubes (or "valves") in their circuitry, which gives them a warm, natural sound that many guitarists prefer.
  • Dual-channel design: Each OD2 amplifier includes two channels, which can be switched between using a footswitch. This allows guitarists to easily switch between clean and overdriven sounds, or between different overdrive settings.
  • Versatile tone controls: The OD2 amplifiers include a range of tone-shaping controls, such as bass, middle, treble, and presence, which allow guitarists to tailor their sound to their preferences.
  • Built-in effects loop: The OD2 amplifiers also include a built-in effects loop, which allows guitarists to connect external effects pedals and processors.
  • Multiple power options: Depending on the specific model, the OD2 amplifiers can be run at different power levels, which affects their overall volume and tone.

Overall, the Carol-Ann OD2 amplifier series is highly regarded by many guitarists for its high-quality construction, versatile tone options, and ability to provide both clean and overdriven sounds. However, due to their boutique nature, these amplifiers can be quite expensive and may not be accessible to all guitarists.

OD3 Series[6]

OD3 Series is a 3 channel amplifier that came in two versions: OD3 50 or 100 Watts and OD2r 30/18 selectable watts

The OD3 series is specifically designed to provide a versatile overdrive tone that is suitable for a wide range of playing styles and musical genres.

The OD3 series features two separate channels with independent volume, gain, and tone controls. The clean channel is based on a classic American clean tone, while the overdrive channel offers a wide range of overdrive and distortion tones, from a mild crunch to a heavy metal distortion. The overdrive channel also includes a boost switch, which can be used to increase the gain and volume of the overdrive signal.

One unique feature of the OD3 series is the "Depth" control, which adjusts the low-end response of the amplifier. This allows players to dial in the perfect balance of low-end punch and clarity for their playing style and guitar.

The OD3 series is available in various configurations, including head and combo versions with different speaker options. The amplifiers are built with high-quality components and construction techniques, and are designed to provide years of reliable performance.

Overall, the Carol-Ann OD3 series is a versatile and high-quality amplifier line that offers a wide range of tones and features for guitarists of all styles and skill levels.

Tucana Series[7]

The Tucana series was first introduced in 2016 and features a range of models, including the Tucana 3, Tucana 2, and Tucana 1.

The Tucana series is designed to offer guitar players a versatile and dynamic range of tones, with a focus on high-gain distortion and overdrive sounds. Each model in the series features a range of controls and switches that allow players to fine-tune their sound, including controls for gain, tone, and volume, as well as switches for boost and channel selection.

The Tucana 3[8][9] is the flagship model in the series and features a three-channel design with separate controls for each channel. It also includes a built-in effects loop and a range of speaker outputs, allowing players to connect to a variety of different speaker configurations.

The Tucana 2 is a two-channel amplifier that offers a similar range of controls and features as the Tucana 3, but in a more compact and portable package. It also includes a built-in effects loop and speaker outputs for connecting to different speaker cabinets.

The Tucana 1 is a single-channel amplifier that is designed for players who prefer a simpler, more straightforward approach to their tone. It features a streamlined control layout with controls for gain, tone, and volume, as well as a boost switch for additional gain.

Triptik Series[10]

The Triptik series features three main models: the Triptik 1, Triptik 2, and Triptik 3[11]. Each model has a different power output, with the Triptik 1 producing 18 watts, the Triptik 2 producing 45 watts, and the Triptik 3 producing 100 watts. All three models are designed to be highly versatile and offer a wide range of tones, from clean and clear to gritty and distorted.

One of the unique features of the Triptik series is its "triple gain" structure, which allows players to switch between three different levels of gain to achieve their desired tone. The amps also feature built-in effects loops and come with a range of speaker options, allowing players to customize their sound even further.

TX-50[12]

The TX50 was a limited edition created based on a request from Oz at Austin Guitar House. Oz wanted an amplifier that captured the tones of the JB-100 but gain staged for smaller club settings. The TX-50 has its OD channel voiced for those vocal mid range tones that the JB-100 brought to Joes recorded and live tones on the Ballad of John Henry CD. Although various JB-100's have featured on several of Joes CD's, his live rigs and on his DVD's, the Red JB100 was the only EL34 model and my personal fave. The TX-50 is a 50 version of that amp, and a very very sweet amp for blues and rock.

They TX-50 features a 50-watt output, which is powered by a pair of EL34 tubes, and they have a range of controls for shaping your tone, including a 3-band EQ, a presence control, and a gain control.

One of the standout features of the TX50 amps is their clean channel, which is known for its clarity and dynamic range. The clean channel is designed to be incredibly responsive to your playing, allowing you to achieve a range of tones simply by adjusting your playing dynamics. The overdrive channel on the TX50 amps is also highly regarded, delivering a range of distortion tones that are responsive and touch-sensitive.
