Caroline Bosmans
Caroline Bosmans (Lummen, 12 mei 1976) is a Belgian fashion designer of children’s clothes. She is the face behind CRLNBSMNS and BOY(S)MANS, both labels that stand out because of their strong silhouettes up to 18 years.[1]
Education
Raised in a rather conservative household, Caroline Bosmans was encouraged by her parents to choose what was considered a stable education. Instead of her childhood dream to study fashion, she therefore pursued a career as a psychotherapist. However, fashion always remained at the back of her mind. At the age of 30, she signed up at SASK in Sint-Niklaas, where she followed a part-time training in fashion design. Shortly after graduating in 2013, she launched her label CRLNBSMNS.[2]
Career
As a mom of two when she started her fashion training and four by the time she graduated, the concept of children’s clothes was something that came natural to Caroline Bosmans. From the very first collection, she managed to instill a certain DNA in the brand, which ultimately made her stand out within the children’s segment. The urge to create originated from not finding what she looked for in children’s clothes as a mother herself.[2] By means of bolt prints and outspoken materials, the designer creates a world of her own, always with a distinctive surreal touch to it. Each collection is constructed around a theme, such as ‘Official Fake’ and ‘Frituur Bambi’ to name just a few. These themes act as a visual guideline during the design process and are translated into the most marvelous images, for which her children model. With her husband joining the brand, one can truly speak of a family effort.[2] Founded as a unisex brand, over time the designer’s creative outlet tended to shift more towards girls given the broader range of type of garments (dresses, leggings, skirts…). As a result, she noticed several shops displayed her collections solely at the girl’s corner, despite the unisex pieces worn by both her daughters and sons. This spurred her on to launch BOY(S)MANS in 2019, her second label marketed as high-end street wear.[2]
Recognition
Caroline Bosmans is represented in over 60 stores worldwide. Her striking silhouettes especially seem to appeal to an international audience, Korea and the United States being the top buyers. Even celebrities such as Beyoncé, Kylie Jenner and P. Diddy can be counted among her customers. The fact that their children’s styling teams consider her designs is a big recognition for the Belgian designer, who deliberately chooses to not appear in pictures herself.[3][4]
