Caroline Elizabeth Henry (born December 1969)[1] is the Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner representing the Conservative Party. She was elected in 2021, defeating the incumbent PCC, and former Member of Parliament for Sherwood, Paddy Tipping. She is married to Broxtowe MP Darren Henry.[2]

Professional career[edit]

Henry described herself as founder and Managing Director of Catapult, an "SME" that was "born in 2003", that provided "Professionally Qualified Business & Life Coaches".[3]

Political career[edit]

Henry began her campaign for selection as Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner as early as 26 January 2021.[4] She was selected as the Conservative candidate for Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner on 24 February 2021.[5] She was elected on 6 May 2021 with 51% of the vote share in the second stage.[6]

Controversy[edit]

In May 2022, Henry appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court, charged with five speeding offences committed during a 12-week period in 2021, both when she was campaigning to be Commissioner and afterwards. After pleading guilty at an earlier hearing, the case was adjourned with sentencing expected on 19 July. Facing a potential driving ban, her lawyer argued that sentencing should reflect that two incidents may be dealt with under 'special reasons', which could reduce the cummulative points tally used as a criterion for disqualification.[7][8]

On 18 July 2022, Henry was given a six-month driving ban and a £2,450 fine. Henry commented that she was "...quite properly..." banned and fined, and that she remained "...committed to serving the people of Nottinghamshire as police and crime commissioner".[9]

Henry was criticised for "hypocrisy", in that she launched a new police 'accountability' campaign soon after appearing in court.[10]

Henry later revealed that the special circumstances alluded to by her lawyer related to difficulties with her two children who needed special and residential care.[11]
