Carrie Pitzer
Carrie Pitzer (born August 1, 1979) is an American journalist. She is known for sports writing, entertainment reviews, and ownership of several newspapers and a magazine in Nebraska. Since purchasing her first newspaper in 2016, it has since been named the top weekly newspaper in Nebraska by the Nebraska Press Association.[1] by winning the 2018 Loral Johnson Community Sweepstakes Award[2]. The newspaper more than doubled the runner-up publication in points thanks to 35 total awards[3]
Pitzer first became known as a sports writer for the Norfolk Daily News. She worked part-time while attending Midland Lutheran College and was hired full time during her junior year[4]. In 2003, she won top honors in Nebraska Associated Press contest for daily publications for her column, "Letter of Support for Frank."[5] In 2005, Carrie left sports and began a stint as an entertainment writer and was sought for album and concert reviews, including Reba McEntire[6], Lee Ann Womack[7] and many others. During that time, Pitzer also served as the publication's first online editor and eventually moved to advertising.
In August 2013, Pitzer launched the marketing and media company, Pitzer Digital, which was named the Nebraska Main Street Network business of the year[8] in 2016. Pitzer Digital was the first business in Neligh, Nebraska, awarded an LB 840 loan[9] with its first storefront in 2014. The company expanded with a new location in 2017 and utilized the City of Neligh's Downtown Revitalization program[10] for remodel assistance. The economic development projects[11] took the company from one full-time and two part-time employees to 14 employees. In 2016, Pitzer Digital expanded its media division by purchasing The Orchard News[12] and transformed it to a digital and print publication as the Antelope County News. In 2017, it purchased the Bloomfield Monitor [13] and expanded it to digital and print as the Knox County News. Pitzer also purchased Living Here magazine[14] and moved it from Yankton, South Dakota, to Neligh, Nebraska.
