Casio fx-991ES, with the "Natural Display" system

The Casio fx-991ES (introduced in 2004) is a solar and battery powered scientific calculator from Casio, whose special feature is the natural representation of mathematical expressions and formulas through a 96 × 31 dot matrix LCD display. The system is termed as "Natural Display".

The fx-991ES is no longer manufactured and is succeeded by the fx-991ES Plus (for the international market) which has some improvements over the fx-991ES in inputting fractions and, displaying the results. It also offers more memory stores. Its variant is the Casio fx-570ES Plus, with exactly the same features but powered by a single AAA-size battery.

The system used by the fx-991ES Plus is called "Natural V.P.A.M" instead of Natural Display. Other related models are the fx-995ES (for the Japanese market), fx-991DE Plus (for the German market) and fx-115ES Plus (mainly for the US and Canadian market). These models incorporate many more features than the fx-991ES Plus.

Some of the features of Casio fx-991ES (and fx-991ES PLUS)

  • Standard scientific calculations (Trigonometric, Exponential, Logarithmic)
  • Complex Number calculations
  • Matrix calculations
  • Numerical Integration and Differentiation
  • Fraction calculations
  • Equation solver
  • Base-N calculations (Binary, Octal, Decimal Hexadecimal)
  • Combination and Permutation
  • List-based STAT data editor
  • Standard deviation
  • Paired-variable statistics regression analysis
  • Logical operations
  • Table function
  • 40 scientific constants
  • 40 metric conversions (20 conversion pairs)
  • 9 variable memories
  • Uses a single LR44 (alakline) button battery (in addition to a solar cell)
