Casper Canada
Casper Canada is a Canadian retail and e-commerce brand operating as a subsidiary of Sleep Country Canada. The brand sells mattresses, pillows, bedding, and related accessories through its website, retail stores, and Sleep Country locations.
Casper Sleep Inc., a direct-to-consumer mattress company founded in the United States in 2014, entered the Canadian market that same year..[1] The company later expanded in Canada through pop-ups, retail partnerships and, from 2018, a network of stores, a Toronto headquarters and Canadian manufacturing.
In 2023, Sleep Country Canada acquired the Canadian operations of Casper Sleep Inc.[2], establishing Casper Canada as a distinct subsidiary.
History
Casper Sleep Inc. (2014–2023)
Casper Sleep Inc. was founded in 2014 in New York City as a direct-to-consumer mattress company. It sold foam mattresses compressed and shipped in boxes for home delivery, helping bring the "mattress in a box" format to wider consumer awareness in North America[3]
The company went public on the New York Stock Exchange in February 2020[4] and reported continued financial losses[5] in the years that followed.
Entry into the Canadian market (2014–2019)
Casper began selling online in Canada in 2014, shortly after its US launch, and built an early presence through pop-up activations and retail partnerships with West Elm, Indigo[6] and EQ3.
In April 2018, Casper announced a Canadian expansion that included a fleet of permanent stores, a Toronto headquarters and a Canadian manufacturing operation[7] that it said would create about 75 jobs. Its first store opened the following month at CF Sherway Gardens in Toronto[6], and a flagship on Queen Street West followed in December 2018, becoming the company's Canadian headquarters in 2019[8]. By 2019, Casper was manufacturing mattresses in Canada for the domestic market and had opened further stores in Calgary and Vancouver[9].
Acquisition by Sleep Country Canada (2023)
In 2023, Sleep Country Canada acquired Casper's Canadian operations for US$20.6 million[10], gaining its six Canadian stores and folding the business into its portfolio of retail brands alongside Endy, Hush and Silk & Snow. Casper Canada has since continued under the Casper name, with Sleep Country responsible for its retail and e-commerce operations.

As of 2025, Casper Canada operates retail stores in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, and Halifax[11]. Products are also available through Sleep Country Canada's network of retail locations across Canada[12].

Marketing
Before opening permanent stores, Casper built awareness in Canada through touring and pop-up activations. In the spring of 2016 it ran a "Napmobile" tour with stops in Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto, followed in August 2016 by temporary "snooze rooms" in selected cities [13]and, in July 2017, a "Casper Cottage" pop-up on Toronto's Ossington Avenue[6].
After Sleep Country acquired the Canadian business in 2023, Casper Canada engaged the Toronto agency GUT, which led a refresh of the brand's guidelines in 2024. In June 2025, "This is Perfect Sleep," was reported as the brand's first national campaign since the acquisition[14]. Directed by Alex Hulsey[15] and shot in real bedrooms, it used unidealised, often humorous depictions of people asleep and ran across connected television, social media and out-of-home placements.
Awards and Recognition
Casper Canada products have been reviewed by and included in "best of" roundups from publications including Good Housekeeping[16],Yahoo[17], the Vancouver Sun[18] , Global News[19], Canoe[20] [21], and Made in CA [22]. The Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress [23]received a 2025 Product of the Year award in the mattress-in-a-box category[24]
