Casper Esmann is a Danish fingerstyle guitar player known for his arrangements and original compositions on the acoustic guitar. In September 2018, Esmann became a finalist at the "Acoustic Guitarist of the Year" competition held by MusicRadar.[1]

Biography[edit]

Esmann grew up in a musical family with his mother playing piano and his father playing electric guitar.[2] He loved music as a child but never really felt the urge to play an instrument himself, he did take classical piano lessons but it felt like homework to him so he lost interest in the piano after a few years.[2] When Esmann turned 13 his father showed him a video of the Australian guitar virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel, this immediately turned Esmann on to the acoustic guitar.[2] Esmann is self taught at the guitar since there were no fingerstyle guitar teachers available in Denmark at the time.[3]

Esmann released his 1st EP entitled "Running Sushi" in 2011, the EP contained 5 original songs.[4] After the album release Esmann slowly began performing at various gutiar festivals around Europe. He also finally met and performed live with his big inspiration and influence Tommy Emmanuel, this happened during Emmanuel's concert in Helsingborg, Sweden late 2012 at Helsingborgs Konserthus.[5]

Since then Esmann has released multiple studio albums, EP's and continued touring in various countries around the world. He also worked as a promoter and tour manager for Sungha Jung and Andy McKee from 2014 to 2015, arranging and managing concerts in Scandinavia.[6][7] Gabriella Quevedo and Esmann himself also performed during these tours.[8][9]

Acoustic Guitarist of the Year (Finalist)[edit]

In 2018, Esmann became a finalist in the world reknowned guitar competition "Acoustic Guitarist of The Year" by MusicRadar.[1] Alongside him were the other two finalists Karlijn Langendijk from the Netherlands and Alexandr Misko from Russia. The judges of the competition were Jon Gomm, Mike Dawes and Tommy Emmanuel, which declared Misko as the winner.[10]

Esmann performed his own original song "D-Day" from his 2018 release "EP".[11] Even though Esmann didn't win he stated in an interview with TV 2 Øst, that this competition really gave his career a much needed push.[12]
