Early life and education
Haswell was born on 22 August 1996 in Southend-on-Sea, Essex.[1] They were enrolled at Belfairs Academy until 2012 where they studied Media and Photography. They also studied Performing Arts at USP College.[2] They have also taken acting training from John Askew via ActUpNorth.[2][3]
Haswell had an interest in media from a young age, listing behind-the-scenes programmes such as Doctor Who Confidential as an early inspiration for their pursuit into creative arts.[4]
Haswell reports being extremely clumsy as a child, which frequently landed them in A&E. In 2011, they were diagnosed with an Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM), a rare neurological condition that can often be fatal. This caused them to suffer from severe, frequent migraines, fainting spells and seizures, increased light sensitivity, as well as difficulties with speech and motor control. They also report gaps in their memory which they also attribute to the AVM. Haswell would frequently hide their fainting spells from other people, and even after diagnosis reported struggling with disbelief from people who had not heard of the disorder.
For the first few months after receiving this diagnosis Haswell states they "gave up", engaging in self-destructive behaviour such as alcoholism as they had "nothing left to lose". Through therapy they managed to recover from this mental state and decided to use creative endeavours such as YouTube videos, art and poetry as an emotional outlet, stating that if they were going to die, they would at least do the things they loved.
Haswell received Radiosurgery in late 2013 to remove the malformation. They received a small scar on their left temple from the frame used in this process.[5]

Haswell first began content creation on YouTube as young as eleven years old, although this is no longer available to view.[4]
In 2012 they began the YouTube channel then known as TheScarletBlaze, where they posted frequent vlogs detailing their life, travel, and sketch comedy. Many of these videos have been deleted or privatised, they participated in frequent collaborations with other YouTubers which remain public.[6][7]
In 2014 they began a second YouTube channel dedicated to gaming videos, with their first video being a Let's Play of Slender: The Arrival on 8 December 2014. They play a variety of video games but specialise in mainstream and independant horror games
