Cassius Chaney is an American professional boxer and former NCAA Division II basketball player. Born in Baltimore, Maryland[2] on June 7th, 1987, Chaney attended Old Saybrook Senior High School in Old Saybrook, CT, where he was a star player for their basketball team, earning an offer to play for the University of New Haven.
Basketball Career[edit]
While in high school, Chaney captained the Old Saybrook High School Rams to the 2005 Divison 4 state championship in basketball, scoring 22 points in the championship game, while contributing 9 rebounds and 6 assists.[3] In basketball, Cassius was named first team all-conference twice, being named the Shoreline Conference MVP as a senior, along with being named first team all-state twice.[4] Cassius accepted an offer to play basketball at University of New Haven. While at UNH, Chaney was named the ECC Rookie of the Year and all-ECC in his first season. Cassius continued his success, being named all-ECC and all-Northeast-10 Conference in his subsequent years. Cassius ended his University of New Haven career as the team's 6th highest scorer of all time, with 1,893 points,[5] while also earning a BA in sports management.[6]
Boxing Career[edit]
As an amateur boxer, Cassius had a record of 24-3.[7] Cassius made his professional boxing debut on Apil 17, 2015 against Perry Filkins at the Mohegan Sun Arena, winning by a technical knockout.[8] Since his debut, Cassius has a record of 13-0, with a total of 7 wins by knockout.
Personal Life[edit]
Cassius Chaney was named after boxer Cassius Clay, who was later known as Muhammad Ali.[9] Chaney currently lives in New London, CT.[10]
