Catalina Frances Lauf (born May 5, 1993) is an American politician and conservative political commentator. In 2020, she ran in the Republican primary for U.S. House of Representatives in IL14, currently held by Democrat Congresswoman, Lauren Underwood.
Her candidacy gained national media attention, with conservative media outlets branding her as the “Anti-AOC,” as she would have replaced AOC as the youngest woman elected to U.S. Congress. Lauf is a former Trump Administration appointee and is of Hispanic descent.
Early Years:
Lauf was born and raised in Woodstock, IL. Her mother is an immigrant from Guatemala and her father a small-business owner. Her father is of German, English, and Irish descent.
Lauf began taking classes at her local community college at just 15 years old while completing a homeschooling degree. By 17, Catalina graduated with an Associates Degree. In 2013, Lauf earned a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in political science and journalism from Miami University of Ohio. She was a member of College Republicans and wrote political commentary for the University’s newspaper. Lauf is fluent in Spanish.

In 2019, Lauf’s candidacy gained national media attention after an article written by the NY POST dubbing her as the “Anti-AOC” went viral. She has been interviewed by FOX News and other top tier outlets. While heavily underfunded against two State Senators, in 2020, she lost the Republican Primary for IL-14 to Jim Oberweis by a close margin. She is considered a rising star in Republican politics. In 2020, Lauf was a featured speaker at the Republican National Convention alongside her sister.
