The Muisca Confederation is the name given to a loose confederation of rulers of the Muisca, in the heart of the Eastern Ranges of the Colombian Andes. The confederation existed from about 1450 until the Spanish conquest in 1537-1540. The confederation was reigned from two capitals; the northern capital Hunza, presently known as the capital of Boyacá; Tunja, and from Bacatá, the current capital of Colombia; Bogotá.
