From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Catherine Cherry (1948 - ) is an Australian performance artist and has exhibited at many Australian galleries.[1]

Biography

Cherry was born in Leicester, England.[1] In 1972 she migrated to Australia and subsequently enrolled into the South Australian School of Art in 1974, going on to receive a diploma in painting by 1977.[1] Cherry has exhibited in Australian galleries, including the Experimental Art Foundation, Adelaide, South Australia, La Trobe University & Preston Institute of Technology, and the Contemporary Art Centre of South Australia, Adelaide, South Australia.[2]

In the exhibition catalogue for The Women's Show, Adelaide (1977) there is an extract from a talk Cherry gave entitled 'Female Imagery - Eros in Art'.[3] In the book Doing Feminism (2021) the author Anne Marsh describes Cherry's practice as body art that is both visceral and pioneering because of how she conceives of the female body and its relationship to black hole theory and quantum physics.[4]
