Catlin Tucker
Catlin R. Tucker is an American educator, author, and consultant specializing in blended learning, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and student-led instructional strategies.[1] She is a bestselling author of several books on educational technology and pedagogy and serves as a professor in the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Pepperdine University[2].[3]
Education
Tucker earned her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She went on to receive her Master’s in Education from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). Later, she completed her Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) in Learning Technologies at Pepperdine University, where her research focused on teacher engagement in blended learning environments.[4]
Career
Tucker began her career as a high school English teacher in Sonoma County, California, where she taught for 16 years. During her tenure in the classroom, she gained recognition for her early adoption and implementation of blended learning models to increase student engagement and personalization. In 2010, she was named the Sonoma County Teacher of the Year.[1]
Currently, Tucker works as a consultant and international speaker, partnering with schools and districts globally to shift instruction from traditional teacher-led models to student-centered approaches. Her work emphasizes sustainable teaching practices, equity in education, and the integration of technology to remove barriers to learning.[citation needed]
She is also the host of The Balance, a podcast that explores strategies for making the teaching profession more sustainable and impactful for educators.[5]
Philosophy and Impact
Tucker is a proponent of the Station Rotation Model and other blended learning infrastructures that allow teachers to facilitate small-group instruction[6][7]. Her pedagogical philosophy centers on "student-led learning," advocating for workflows where students take ownership of their progress, assessment, and goal-setting[8][9]. She frequently writes about the importance of work-life balance for teachers, suggesting that student-led workflows can reduce teacher burnout[10][11].[12]
Publications
Tucker has authored and co-authored more than ten books focused on blended learning, online teaching, and educational leadership. Her notable works include:
Blended Learning in Action: A Practical Guide Toward Sustainable Change (with Tiffany Wycoff and Jason T. Green)[6]
