CayMAS Carnival is one of the two main Caribbean carnival events that take place in the Cayman Islands, the other being Batabano. Usually being held on the last week of June or early July, it provides weeklong festivities leading up to the main road parade on a Saturday. The parade will start in downtown George Town and work it’s way up the Seven Mile Beach corridor on West Bay road, eventually finishing at public beach where a post-parade celebration will take place into the night called AfterMAS, with food, concerts and many more festivities. The festival, despite only being around for 7 years, as burst in popularity and continues to grow each year.

It recent years, CayMAS has become a staple of a “Cayman Islands summer,” and a showcase of the island nation’s diversity and cultural heritage.

History[edit]

CayMAS carnival began recently, in 2017; and was born out of its split from the Cayman Islands’ other main carnival event, Batabano.

CayMAS Carnival has said on their website that they choose their dates due to many factors: summer is high tourism season in the Cayman Islands, so it will inevitably attract more jumpers (term used for parade participants) and onlookers, as well as to attract Caymanian university students studying overseas who may have missed Batabano in May.

The organization has also stated that they are completely non-profit, and that the “People of the Cayman Islands” own CayMAS Carnival.[1]
