Cazza is a construction firm based in the silicon valley of California. It is known for its attempt to build the first skyscraper with 3D printing technology, using cranes, steel and concrete.[1][2][3][4]

History[edit]

Founded by Chris Kelsey and Fernando De Los Rios in 2016, Cazza is a Silicon Valley based company. Kelsey formed an app company, called Appsitude, when he was 17 and in high school.[5] In October 2016, Kelsey sold Appsitude[6] and used the money to start Cazza, a construction technologies company focusing on 3D automation.[7] The company raised a seed investment on a $25m valuation in 2016.[8][9]

In 2016 Cazza was accepted to participate in the Dubai Future Accelerators program. As a part of the program, Cazza collaborated with the Dubai Government on 3D printing technologies and helped formulate new laws and building codes related to the use of 3D printing technologies.[10]

In 2017 a project was announced involving Cazza to build a skyscraper in the United Arab Emirates.[1][11]

Products[edit]

Cazza sells 3D printing robots for the construction of houses, low rise commercial buildings, villas, modules, and architectural structures.[8]

The X1 is a self-powered robotic arm mounted upon a platform that uses a continuous track system to maneuver the machine into place. The end-effector is a specialized nozzle that delivers the proprietary building material in precisely the correct location.[citation needed]

The X1 Core is a larger version of the X1 which can build structures up to six meters in height as standard. The robot is capable of everything the standard X1 is, but it can be upgraded with a “field autopilot system” which allows the robot to navigate the construction site by itself.[citation needed]

Cazza also produces 3D printed buildings which include houses, villas, shelters, warehouses, prefab modules, commercial buildings and free standing structures up to 6m in height.[11] The system uses a special mix of concrete that can be adaptable to location and climate.[12] Due to the nature of 3D-printed construction and the properties of standard concrete mixes, it was necessary to create a concrete that can be adaptable to location and climate.[11] This concrete mix also requires less material to reach structural parity with standard concrete with water savings and wastage.[12]
