Celebration Station
Celebration Station is an American family entertainment center chain founded in 1982 by WestStarr Development Corporation. Locations feature a sit-down restaurant, complemented by arcade games, go-karts, bumper boats, mini golf, batting cages, laser tag, and small rides for children. Formerly, Celebration Station housed numerous animatronic shows, including "W.O.O.F. Radio" by Creative Presentations, Inc. and Daniel and the Dixie Diggers with Jethro P. Hogg by Sally Corporation. Since March 2022, the chain has been a division of Five Star Parks & Attractions from Branson, Missouri.[1]

History
WestStarr Development Corporation, a firm based in Bettendorf, Iowa, developed a restaurant arcade concept to chase the success of Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre and ShowBiz Pizza Place. Celebration Station, WestStarr's foray into the family entertainment center industry, first opened in Rockford, Illinois on May 24, 1982.[2] A trademark was filed just five days later on May 29, 1982.[3] On September 17, 1982, the second Celebration Station opened in Merrillville, Indiana on the site of a "Second Hand Rosa's" pizzeria. The location, two stories tall, was built around the existing "Rosa's" layout and owned by Dean White of Whiteco Industries.[4] White eventually acquired the Celebration Station chain from WestStarr, becoming a division of Whiteco afterwards. Two additional stores opened in Bensalem and Springfield, Pennsylvania by 1984. All of these initial locations opened with W.O.O.F. Radio, an animatronic show manufactured by Creative Presentations, Inc. of Schaumburg, Illinois.
Entertainment
Video Arcade
Like it's competition, one of the primary draws for Celebration Station has been its video arcade offering inside restaurants. Within the arcade, customers can play card-operated video games or redemption games, the latter of which involves games of skill that reward players in the form of tickets based on score. Tickets can be redeemed later for merchandise, such as candy and toys.
Outdoor Attractions
Starting with the 1989 renovations to Merrillville and the 1990 opening of Baton Rouge[5], Celebration Station has incorporated a variety of outdoor attractions. All stores at least include go-kart tracks, bumper boats, mini golf courses, and batting cages. A handful of amusement park flat rides can be found in locations, with some also including a Miner Mike roller coaster from Wisdom Rides.
Restaurant & Animatronics
W.O.O.F. Radio
All Celebration Station locations first opened with a designated dining room space, each featuring an animatronic band (except for Baton Rouge, Louisiana and the defunct Tampa, Florida store). From 1982 to 1984, the animatronic show supplied was "W.O.O.F. Radio" by Creative Presentations, Inc. (CPI) of Schaumburg.[6] As the name implies, W.O.O.F. is a fictional radio station managed by Harry Hound, Celebration Station's mascot, and Howard Le Trec (named "Gopher" in the show's soundtrack) on stage right. The center stage contained the house band, known as "The Pantones," with Purrscilla Purr on piano, Peter "Big Bear" Panda on drums, and Doc the Fox on electric guitar. Major Moose, the station's weatherman, performed on bass guitar with Accu-Duck (who communicated in Donald Duck-mannered grunts and squawks) on stage left. The three-staged show performed a variety of music genres, primarily rock and roll, pop, and disco.[7] CPI manufactured at least five W.O.O.F. shows for Celebration Station (those being for Rockford, Merrillville, Bensalem, and Springfield), but some characters and shows were installed at other venues (such as "Big Bear" and Purrscilla in the French Mirapolis theme park,[8] and a full W.O.O.F. show installed at a former Chuck E. Cheese in Fall River, Massachusetts).[9] Because the previous Second Hand Rosa's concert showroom was too small for a traditional 3-stage arrangement, the Pantones center stage was moved up above, with stage right (Harry Hound) and stage left (Major Moose) placed underneath.
In 1989, the Merrillville W.O.O.F. Radio was significantly altered to adopt a western saloon theme with added characters. "Big Bear" was replaced by a orangutan named Buford, (a variation of CPI's "Putnam" character from their "Ape-Ology's" animatronic band) and a new member, Elsworth (a character originating from the aforementioned "Ape-Ology's"), was added between Harry Hound and Major Moose on the lower stages, which had been combined into one during the renovation. Despite Buford's inclusion, none of the pre-existing audio with Big Bear was rerecorded, so references to "Peter Panda" and "Big Bear" remained intact alongside the new recordings referencing Buford. This unique version of W.O.O.F. remained until Merrillville's permanent closure in 2001, and was the last remaining installation at Celebration Station following the closures of Rockford in 1988 and Springfield in 1990 (Bensalem's closure is currently unknown). The animatronics and props were sold to nearby Deep River Waterpark in Crown Point, standing but not operating in an outdoor food court before they were stored away under picnic shelters by 2008.[10] Their current fate is unknown, but alleged sources claim they have since been destroyed.
Sally Corporation
Sally Dark Rides (previously Sally Corporation and Sally Dark Rides) of Jacksonville had been well established as an animatronic show manufacturer by the late 1980s. In July 1990, Whiteco approached Sally to have a new show configuration, a condensed three-character version of Sally's popular Daniel and the Dixie Diggers (DATDD) band paired with Sally's then-newest character, Jethro P. Hogg, be installed in new Celebration Station stores beginning in 1991. A total of 12 Sally Corporation animatronic shows were installed at Celebration Station, with an official listing for each installation below:

Daniel and the Dixie Diggers with Jethro P. Hogg
Daniel and the Dixie Diggers, Sally's first and most popular animatronic band, is a group of anthropomorphic dogs who perform classic dixieland jazz and other songs reinterpreted in a ragtime sound. Daniel T. Bones, a great dane who leads the band, is the main vocalist and pianist. Scratchmo, a bulldog modeled after Louis Armstrong (and named after the "Satchmo" nickname of Armstrong's), plays trumpet in a majority of songs, but occasionally sings solo. Colonel Beaufort T. Beauregard III, a sheep dog on banjo, is a secondary vocalist in most songs and usually tells tall tales or reminisces about the Confederacy, in which his grandfather served during the American Civil War. In Celebration Station, the band is depicted on a large main stage with a background depicting main street exteriors (a barber shop, an inn, and a theater with a marquee that reads the band's name on both sides, plus an adjacent restaurant).[13] On the small side stage next to the Dixie Diggers stage is Jethro P. Hogg, a solo entertainer who performs a setlist of country and bluegrass songs on guitar. Jethro is a pig who owns a general store, meant to tie into the main street theming. When birthday segments are played, Jethro's "magic mailbox" reveals a cake that is pushed out via conveyor for party hosts to pick up and serve to the birthday tables.[14] In some segments, Jethro performs and interacts alongside Daniel and the Dixie Diggers as a "special guest."[15] All segment scripts and soundtracks were produced by Sally's Janet Sherman, who had consistently produced Sally's animatronic soundtracks by that point.[16] The first show set manufactured for Celebration Station was installed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, but debuted sometime after the second installation in Charlotte (Pineville), North Carolina, both in 1991. The final installation occurred in 1993 at the Memphis, Tennessee location, when Sally halted production on manufacturing new shows for the chain. Beginning in 2008,[17] Whiteco gradually removed all remaining DATDD + Jethro sets from operation, with the last to be decommissioned being Clearwater, Florida in 2016. Unlike Chuck E. Cheese, where most animatronic removals require destruction to protect brand image, Celebration Station instead "ledged" animatronic characters in game rooms at the Mesquite, Greensboro, and Clearwater stores. Mesquite's display is missing Daniel T. Bones, only featuring Scratchmo, Colonel Beauregard, and Jethro, meaning Clearwater is the only display with all four animatronics included. Greensboro's display only showcased Daniel and the Dixie Diggers with their main street background, with Jethro completely excluded. As of 2025, Greensboro's display has been removed and thrown out, with Mesquite and Clearwater's animatronics still on display in the game room.
The Rockin' Rascals
In 1993, Whiteco requested a retrofitted overlay of Daniel and the Dixie Diggers with Jethro P. Hogg with their own original characters, the first original show exclusive to Celebration Station since the creation of W.O.O.F. Radio in 1982. The project's working title was initially referred to as "Paw Patrol" (in no relation to the animated series of the same name), before it was finalized to The Rockin' Rascals. Opening with the defunct Knoxville, Tennessee Celebration Station on December 17, 1993. The characters, while original to the chain, were mechanically repurposed from the existing Sally characters. Jethro P. Hogg became Hurricane Hound, a mystic dog on acoustic guitar, performing from a laboratory. Major Moose, revived from the original W.O.O.F. Radio show, plays electric guitar and is a cosmetic retrofit of Colonel Beaufort T. Beauregard III. Calvin Cat, originally named "Calhoun" in concept art,[18] performs on trumpet with the same mechanism as Scratchmo. Finally, Purrscilla Purr, another revived character from W.O.O.F. Radio, once again plays the piano as a reskin of Daniel T. Bones. The original designs for the new and revived characters were provided by Jul Kamen, an artist who previously designed animatronic characters and stages for Chuck E. Cheese from 1982 up through the 1990s.[18][19] Sally Corporation's Janet Sherman returned to helm the soundtrack for Rockin' Rascals, consisting of rock and roll and pop songs akin to W.O.O.F. before it. The test location at Knoxville was the only installation of Rockin' Rascals ever built, as Whiteco may have been disinterested in applying the overlay on existing Daniel and the Dixie Diggers with Jethro P. Hogg sets. In 2005, when PARC Management acquired several Celebration Station locations, including Knoxville, the soundtrack for Rockin' Rascals were abridged to songs only, which was how they performed until their removal by 2010/2011.[20] Their fate is currently unknown, but alleged sources claim they have been destroyed.
Food
Upon opening, Celebration Station initially offered Mexican cuisine alongside burgers and pizzas.[2] Previously, salad bars were common offerings at Celebration Station locations like most family entertainment centers. Currently, Celebration Station continues to offer burgers and pizzas, along with chicken wings and chicken tenders.
