The Central Anatolian famine of 1873-75 (Turkish: 1873-75 Orta Anadolu Kıtlığı) was a famine that lasted from early-1873 to mid-1875 and caused starvation, internal displacement, civil unrest, economic and social crisis in Central Anatolia, the Ottoman Empire, modern-day Turkey. The famine occurred mainly due to harsh weather conditions, namely drought and heavy snowfall, repeatedly causing crop failure. Whilst there not being much reliable data, the famine is estimated to have caused around 100 to 250 thousand casualties. It has been named "the largest famine in Central Anatolia of the last two centuries".
