Centre for Reproductive Research & Communication

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Centre for Reproductive Research & Communication (CRRC) is a research centre that exists within the British Pregnancy Advisory Service. It was established in 2019:[1] to bring the clinical and social science research at BPAS into one multidisciplinary team. The centre is directed by Dr Patricia Lohr, who is also the medical director for BPAS.

The CRRC aims to further access to evidence-based sexual and reproductive health care. The centre aims to inform health policy, clinical practice, and public understanding of research through impactful communication. The CRRC conducts research on BPAS' own work as a reproductive health provider and works in collaboration with external researchers.

The CRRC has five key areas of work [2]

Projects and collaborations

The WRISK Project

The WRISK project was a collaboration between BPAS and researchers at Cardiff University and funded by Wellcome Trust [3]. WRISK aimed to determine how women and pregnant people experience and understand risk messages during pregnancy and improve communication of these risks [4]. Over 7,000 women were asked to share their experiences using qualitative and quantitative data collection. The project had a spin-off during the COVID-19 pandemic to investigate users' experiences of maternity care and risk messaging.

Alcohol and Pregnancy Network

The Alcohol and Pregnancy Network is a group of academics and policy makers with an interest in how healthcare policy and guidance relates to alcohol consumption in pregnancy. The network was formed after BPAS and academic colleagues submitted comments on the NICE Quality Standards FASD Consultation [5].

Human Developmental Biology Resource

Since 2009, BPAS and HDBR have collaborated to allow patients to donate their fetal tissue for research purposes. HDBR is a tissue bank for embryonic and fetal tissue which allows researchers to understand human development[6].
