Rapper Cha$e was born as Devin Toombs in Chicago, Illinois. His father, Dennis Toombs-Calabrese, is Italian, while his mother, Sharon Brown, is of Creole descent (African, Native American, and French). Cha$e grew up in a middle-class neighborhood on Chicago's South Side.

Cha$e's interest in music began with Janet Jackson.[14] Growing up, Cha$e was raised in a musical family where they constantly played music, including Mary J. Blige, TLC, Aaliyah, Aretha Franklin, Minnie Riperton, Mariah Carey, and other artists in the R&B, Gospel, and Jazz genres.[15] Cha$e began writing music when he was in the fourth grade. In high school, Chase began writing R&B songs and hip hop songs for himself.

Cha$e released his first EP "Bipolar" on February 1, 2019.[20] "Bipolar" charted at 20 on the iTunes chart 2 weeks after being released.
