The Chair Pro Tem of Los Angeles County, formally the Chair Pro Tem of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, and sometimes the Los Angeles County Mayor Pro Tem, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the county government in the absents of the chair. They are members of, and serve as presiding officer for, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. The board members serve as chair pro tem for one year each on a rotating basis before becoming chair.[1][2]
History[edit]
The Chair Pro Tem or Mayor Pro Tem of the Board of Supervisors serves a term of one year like Chair/Mayor. Upon the absence of the Mayor/Chair the Chair Pro Tem/Mayor Pro Tem expiration of the term the duties of the Chair/Mayor are rotated among the board members by order of seniority. During his or her term of office, the Chair Pro Tem has the option of calling himself or herself “Mayor Pro Tem”, a practice that was started by Michael D. Antonovich during his tenure as a supervisor like Chair/Mayor. This tradition was not continued by the current incumbents like Chair/Mayor[3][1][4][5]
