Chakkrawat Road
Chakkrawat Road (Thai: ถนนจักรวรรดิ์) is a road in Samphanthawong and Chakkrawat sub-districts, Bangkok's Samphanthawong district or better known as Bangkok's Chinatown. It's a short one-way road starts from S.A.B. intersection toward southeast through Wat Tuek intersection cuts with Yaowarat road until end at Phra Pok Klao bridge's foot and linked to Anuwong, Song Wat roads of Samphanthawong district including Chakkraphet road in Wang Burapha Phirom sub-district, Phra Nakhon district, tote distance is 1.0 km (0.6 mi).
This road built in 1893 in the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) for a convenient way to use the carriages. It divides the bustling shopping district, Sampheng into two parts are the part from Ratchawong road to here and the opposite is Trok Hua Med until end of Saphan Han neighbourhood. The area around Trok Hua Med is a source of dried herbs and chewing tobaccos stores, including restaurants. These stores have been operating for over 100 years.[1][unreliable source?][2][unreliable source?]
Its name after Wat Chakkrawat or Wat Sam Pluem, a Thai temple located on left side of the road near Chakkrawat police station and Phra Pok Klao bridge's foot. This temple during World War II (1942) there's a notorious urban legend about a man-eating crocodile named "Blind of Wat Sam Pluem", who lives on bank of Chao Phraya river near the temple.[3][unreliable source?]
