Chalti Ka Naam Zindagi (translates That which moves/goes on is life), is a 1981 comic film starring the three brothers Kishore Kumar, Ashok Kumar and Anoop Kumar in the lead alongwith Amit Kumar and Reeta Bhaduri in the main frame. The movie seeks to depict a flamboyant tale of the brothers who open a hotel in their city. As it is their maiden business venture, they leave no stone unturned to make it a success. As the story carries out, one of the brother's wife leaves him on account of their hotel not doing well, and takes their son along, while the two brothers try to reinstate their faith in the business. The audience is taken back by another twist as a supernatural backdrop develops in the film with rumours that there are ghosts haunting the hotel, the brothers try to investigate the matter but fail humorously.
Music[edit]
The music was composed by Kishore Kumar, sung by various artistes including Mohammed Rafi, Manna Dey, Mahendra Kapoor and Asha Bhosle. It is interesting to know that the song "Band Muthi Dakh Ki", was one of the last duets of Kishore and Rafi, and ironically this was the last film to be directed and produced by Kishore Kumar.
Reception[edit]
The audience appreciated the film, but some critics claimed they were not contented by the Kumar brothers, who had given a colossal performance in the previous film Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi. The hand-painted poster of the film featured the brothers in a hilarious caricature, riding in a vintage car. It was the last film where the trio was seen and the last film to be directed by Kishore although he did work on another film, Pyar Ajnabi Hai starring Leena Chandravarkar, but unfortunately it would remain unfinished. The film ends on a high note with the lead actors driving away in a car, joyously singing the song, Chalti Ka Naam Zindagi Hai.
