Characters of Genshin Impact

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The current cast of characters in miHoYo's Genshin Impact (aside from the Traveler twins) hails from the Teyvat continent, comprising of seven Nations: Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, Fontaine, Natlan and Snezhnaya. Each nation is ruled by one of the seven Archons, who each control one of the seven elements (corresponding to the nation list above): Anemo, Geo, Electro, Dendro, Hydro, Pyro and Cryo. There are four types of characters in Genshin Impact. Certain characters have received Visions from the Seven Archons, allowing them to control one of the seven elements for battle. These characters are either playable or will be playable in the future. Another type of playable characters are the Archons themselves, having taken up a human identity. They don't have Visions, but can still control the element that they govern, and posses a unique item called a Gnosis that boosts their power tremendously and is proof of their Archon status. Playable characters in the game wields one of five different weapons: Bows, Catalysts, Claymores, Polearms, and Swords. The third type of characters are non-playable NPCs, who are people without Visions. The fourth type of characters are Archons and magical beings that are not part of the Seven, each having unique magical powers of their own. The Traveler does not fit in any of these characters type, due to their unique power of being able to control all elements without a Vision. Certain enemy types, such as the Abyss Mages and Samachurls, has also shown the ability to perform elemental reactions without the need of a Vision.

Each nation in Teyvat is based on a different real-life country or region. They are also governed and controlled in a different way. For example, Mondstadt is militarily governed by the Knights of Favonius, while Liyue is politically governed by the Liyue Qixing, a group of merchants and business leaders. The Adventurers' Guild, however, is an institution that exists in all seven nations (with the main base located in Snezhnaya), handing out commissions for adventurers around Teyvat.[1]

This list of characters contains all known and upcoming playable characters, as well as a few notable NPCs.

Reception[edit]

P.S. I'm adding references here.

The characters of Genshin Impact enjoyed positive reception, specifically in terms of revenue. Character's revenues from limited-time events, coloquially known as 'wishes', Zhongli, an archon's mortal serving as the director of a funeral parlor on Liyue, had grossed $15.5 million in revenue.[2]. Other characters, such as Xiao, Ganyu, Klee and Hu Tao, grossed over $10 million. Childe and Albedo, on their days of being featured on gacha 'wishes', only raked $9 million.

Alongside with the game itself, the characters, in the fields of design, lore, and development, had been criticized. There had been claims of mature characters allegedly having direct relationships with minors, allegedly promoting and practicing pedophilia. Kaeya and Xinyan was one of the victims of the criticism, with different reasons. Kaeya had been tagged as 'exotic' in-game by the community due to its dark skin, unlike other pale-skinned characters. Xinyan was also described as 'scary' in terms of her lore, that was turned out as a fact, according to the game wiki.[3]
