Charan Sekhon MBE (Punjabi: ਚਰਨ ਸੇਖੋਂ) is a British civil servant, councillor and charity leader. [1]
Career and work
Charan, originally from the village of Barundi in India, is the first Sikh officer at the British Environment Agency [2] and in 2020 was recognised for 20 years of service. [3] He is also chairman of SEVA Trust, which is a UK based community charity. [4]
- In 2019, as part of the worldwide 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, he attended an international conference in Delhi where he met with the Country’s president.[5]
- During the Covid-19 pandemic, he helped the residents of Bedford by providing free yoga classes[6] and arranging meals for hundreds of starving students and was hailed as a lockdown hero. [7] [8]
- In 2022, he was one of a few community leaders fighting to save Christmas for families due to the cost of living crisis. [9]
Awards and recognitions
