Jeremy Sandefur, professionally known by his stage name Charis, is an American Christian hip-hop artist and producer. He was formerly signed with Christian hip hop label Nkosi Records from 2013 to 2016 before signing with Universal Sound in 2017. Sandefur released the extended play, Brand New on September 19, 2013. On January 30, 2016, he released his debut studio album, Forever Loved. In 2019, Sandefur previewed the release of his second studio album with the single "Isolated". The single is scheduled to be released on August 23, 2019.
Career[edit]
Musical beginnings, Brand New, early features, and Forever Loved adveristing (2013-15)[edit]
In 2013, Sandefur was signed the first artist ever under Christian hip hop label Nkosi Records. He released the extend play, Brand New, under the Nkosi brand and began touring with Yung Kriss, Anno Domini, and Beamz. In 2014, he was featured with Beamz on Yung Kriss' song "Stamina" on the mixtape Church Music Vol. 1. Sandefur released the single "Assured" featuring Deante Ramon.
On April 8, 2015, Sandefur and Kriss were featured as guest vocaks on JPG's the single "Wild One". On September 11, he was featured on the songs "Dirty" and "Ups 'n' Downs" on Kriss' debut studio album Not so Young. "Ups 'n' Downs" became a commericial success with a guest appearance from rising singer Sophie Rinehart. The song's popularity peaked for the second time after Rinehart, her father, and her grandmother were killed in a car accident involving a drunk driver. In 2015, Sandefur began advertising for his debut studio album Forever Loved. On November 17, he released the album single "Everything".
Forever Loved, Universal Sound, and later singles (2016-present)[edit]
Sandefur released Forever Loved on Janaury 30, 2016. After touring for the album, he decided to leave Nkosi due a lack of progress in their promotion methods. Sandefur explained in a YouTube video that Nkosi wasn't a platform to reach the goals he aimed for. In 2017, he returned to Nkosi to sing at the Nkosi Reunion concert and then began releasing music independently.
On February 14, 2017, Sandefur released the single "This Day" which was dedicated to his wife Jamie. On August 30, he released the single "Alive". On May 29, 2019, Sandefur began promoting the release of his second studio album, Universal Sound, with the single "Isolated". He leaked that release date of the album was August 23, 2019 in the song lyrics of "Isolated".
