Charlene Swayze
Charlene Swayze is a dancer, philanthropist, entrepreneur and founder of The Swayze Foundation and Swayze Ranch. Charlene Lindstrom married actor Don Swayze (Avant Garde p.6), brother of actor Patrick Swayze, in 2014. She has operated a non-profit organization which specializes in serving differently abled and well abled children through adults, with emphasis on horses and animal therapy. Charlene also created the Swayze Ranch, an animal program, in 2020.
From childhood Charlene has been diligent in helping those less fortunate, always giving of her time and finances to help those in need. She has been an entrepreneur since she was 22 years of age and went on to create Recreation USA in 1978 and taught after school programs including gymnastics, dance, soccer, basketball, chess and horse camp. Recreation USA locations are in several cities throughout Northern and Southern California. Through the creation of Recreation USA she helped raise her daughters, (including her severely handicapped daughter), stepdaughters and financially supported her family when her late husband Ken fell ill and was unable to work.
Prior to marrying Don, Charlene had been a widow for seventeen years, raising four daughters and two step daughters. All the daughters are grown up now actively following their own pursuits, however one daughter, KC remains with Charlene. KC is severely and developmentally disabled and requires twenty-four-hour care. KC could have been a discarded soul when Charlene and her widowed husband Ken found out the severity of KC's condition. Having a compassionate heart Charlene was going to have KC and learn to give up her ambitions to take care of her daughter for the rest of her life.
Don and Charlene met on social media as he connected to her charismatic persona and dancer body. Just before that time Don had been taking care of his brother Patrick at his California ranch while Patrick battled cancer right up until his much too early demise in 2009 (Legacy Lives On). Charlene also helped care for Patrick's mom Patsy the last days prior to her passing in September 2013.
Besides operating her own non-profit special needs organization since the late 1970s, Charlene founded the Swayze Foundation in 2018, a charitable group which provides, at no cost, scholarship programs in the arts, sports, equestrian and animal therapy with any and all types of abilities all over the world, the focus being on inclusion and bettering of lives. For the last 10 years Charlene has been flipping houses, buying, remodeling and selling homes. In 2020 Charlene also opened the Cloud Café in Northern California which served a huge variety of healthy choice foods, snacks, pastries, smoothies, drinks and some ethnic dishes. With a great chef, delectable menu and successful clientele the Cloud Café was thriving but has since shut down due to Covid-19 restrictions. However Charlene is planning on opening up again soon in Southern California.
Charlene is currently working with well-established community advisors to build a community/residential care home on the Swayze Ranch property. After obtaining the proper permits from San Diego county and the USDA and putting together all funding sources and protocol, the center will be established. The community center will offer dance, gymnastics, yoga, martial arts, chess instruction, knitting, swimming and water ballet classes to name a few programs. As a benefit to all, this will be a thriving and encouraging asset to the local community, neighbors and citizens.
Charlene is known by her peers as an unending powerhouse, uplifting and motivating, bringing joy to all of her endeavors.
