Charles "Louis-Aristide" Derenne (born 11 August 1982 in Paris[1]) is a French conceptual and performance artist, composer, director and photographer..[2][3] His work is in many instances presented as musical performances in museums or historical places which he seizes without authorizations, accompanied by large video-projection of his films.[4] He lives and works in Los Angeles.[citation needed]
Works[edit]
Derenne's body of work combines two distinct entities that oppose each other in meaning.[3] In his work as a composer and musical performer, Derenne appeals to the nostalgia of relationships between human beings, to violence, to destruction, to poetry and sarcasms. A combination of instruments and melodies from the past and present in a romantic dimension, in the artistic sense of the term.[5] On the contrary, in his personal work as a photographer and videographer, he rejects all forms of human physical presence, favoring nature and architecture as the only narrator.[6]
Derenne met designer Agnès b. in 2011. She signed him to her Galerie du Jour. Derenne made his first collaboration with Agnès b. in 2012 for the " Artists T-Shirt Series" along other artists such as Jonas Mekas, Kenneth Anger, Harmony Korine...[citation needed]
