Charles Hernick is an American environmental consultant, and a politician who ran for the United States Representative for Virginia's 8th congressional district in 2016.
Hernick is an international environmental consultant. He addresses high-profile issues affecting natural resources and economic development by informing policy changes, improving program implementation, and managing projects effectively. He is an expert in identifying cost-effective ways to mitigate and adapt to climate change, applying ecosystem service concepts to decision-making, and complying with USAID’s environmental impact assessment process—as demonstrated through numerous trainings, invited lectures, and advisory roles he has taken on these subjects.
In 2015, Hernick announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives seat for Virginia's 8th congressional district held by incumbent Congressmen Don Beyer. Hernick Won the 2016 Republican primary with 78% of the vote but lost to incumbent Congressmen Don Beyer to 27.3% to 68.4% on November 8, 2016.

Hernick was born in Minnesota. Hernick then moved to Boston.[1] Hernick has an M.A. in International Relations and Environmental Policy and a B.A. in Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior.[2][3]
Business career[edit]
In 2006, Henrick started working at the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management as a Aquatic Invasive Species Specialist. In 2007, Hernick started work as a associate and as a international environmental consultant at the Cadmas Group. In 2014 Hernick became an Senior Associate at the Cadmas group. At the Cadmas Group, Hernick developing climate change resources for USAID staff and partners world-wide, leading an environmental audit of agriculture practices in Guatemala, and advising the environmental impact assessment of a USAID agriculture project in Tanzania. Charles has led numerous country-specific tropical forestry and biodiversity assessments, and rapid climate change vulnerability assessments.[4]
For the U.S. government, Charles designed and implemented the financial responsibility program implementing the “polluter pays principle” for EPA’s geologic sequestration program. He also led several projects examining how source water protection, water pricing, and infrastructure investments can improve utility finances, promote economic growth and employment, and conserve water resources. [5]
