Cheikh Anta Diop : Rebirth is a digital painting of 20th century Senegalese anthropologist Cheikh Anta Diop, created by multidisciplinary designer Ade Olufeko, known for his contributions in the field of humanities and the African Renaissance.[1][2]
Debut and Harvard collaboration[edit]
In 2014, Olufeko known for his mixed media artwork with technology, exhibited the Cheikh Anta Diop : Rebirth painting, alongside other public installations of his work, this included an earlier version of The Legacy (2013) to the Cambridge public. The debut of the work was preceded by Olufeko's lecture and co-panel appearance on the subject of business and the arts, a panel moderated by Beasts of No Nation author Uzodinma Iweala, at the 16th Annual Africa Business Conference at the Harvard University.[3][4]
Art classification[edit]
The style of the art work is best described and classified as; mixed media, digital abstracts and painted work. Parts of the work was developed with a graphics tablet on an iMac, and printed to heavy coated paper for the final mastered art piece.[2]
Reception[edit]
Cheikh Anta Diop : Rebirth was featured on Pambazuka News accompanied by an essay by Dr. Chika Ezeanya-Esiobu, an Indigenous knowledge expert, detailing Diop's pan-African influence and a proposed reintroduction to tertiary-education on the African continent.[1][5]
