Chelsie Hill

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Chelsie Hill (born in 1992).[1], is a dancer that founded the Rollettes, a dance team of wheelchair users and based in Los Angeles, in 2012[2]. Hill had previously aspired to be a professional dancer and became the Central California State Champion her senior year of high school, but experienced a car crash three months before high school graduation that left her paralyzed from the belly button down [3]. In 2014, a Monterey County Superior Court jury determined that the design of the lap belt in the middle seat of a Toyota 4Runner was responsible for the injuries that caused Hill to be paraplegic and ordered Toyota Motor Corp to pay her $12.5 million [4]. Hill was featured on “Push Girls,” a TV show which aired in 2012 and focused on the stories of four disabled women in Los Angeles [5]. However, Hill received degrading comments from viewers of the show, asserting that she was not really dancing because only her arms were moving [6]. Two years after being released from the hospital and after “Push Girls” aired, Hill organized a dance showcase with other women from the wheelchair community, which inspired the inception of the Rollettes [7]. The Rollettes consists of six members and was previously known as Walk and Roll and Team Hotwheelz [8]. The team dances to hits such as LMFAO’s “Party Rock” and Demi Lovato’s “Sorry not Sorry” and has been featured on news outlets such as The Ellen Show, KTLA5, and the Today Show [9]. Hill has also started the E.P.I.C. (Empowering People in Chairs) Project, a non-profit that provides resources to wheelchair users to help make their lives more fulfilled by enabling them to pursue their passions[10]
