Chen (Old Frame, Second Routine, Lao Jia Er Lu)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Summary[edit]

The Er Lu, or Second Form, (also called the Pao Chui or "Cannon Fist") is the advanced empty hand training form in Chen-style t'ai chi ch'uan. This form is traditionally taught only after the student is relatively proficient in the First form (Yi Lu), which typically takes at least three years.[1]

Unlike many other t'ai chi forms, the Er Lu is characterized by explosive, quick movements and powerful energy release (fa jing). The form takes only about four minutes to complete (by comparison, the Yi Lu typically takes fifteen minutes or so) and involves more athletic movements such as leaping, stamping, jumping, and explicit strikes and kicks.[2]

Chen Taijiquan Laojia Er Lu list of postures[edit]

The names of the postures (as given in [3]) of the "old frame" version of this form are listed below. Note that not only are there several different translations of the names of the moves (for example, [4] translates the second posture as "Diamond King Pounds Mortar") but the postures themselves may be different.
